What is Co-relational research?
Co-relational study is a quantitative method of research. A Correlation is simply defined as a
relationship between two or more variables. Co-relational research is also known as associational
research.
Co-relational research can suggest a relationship between variables but it cannot prove that one
variable causes a change in another variable.
Purpose of Co-relational research
1. It is used to assess relationship among naturally occurring variables.
2. It predict relationship
3. Guides direction
4. Figure out which variables are connected
Correlation coefficient
The Correlation coefficient is a measure of correlation strength and can range from -1 to +1.
Correlation coefficient is usually represented by the letter r.
There are three possible results of a Correlational study.
Positive Correlation (+1): Increase in one variable corresponds to an increase in another variable or
Decrease in one variable corresponds to Decrease in another variable
Negative Correlation (-1): Increase in one variable corresponds to Decrease in another variable or
Decrease in one variable corresponds to an increase in another variable
correlation (0): there is no relationship between variables.
